Mark your calendars: Addison County Farm-to-School Salons

As part of our Farm-to-School Initiative, ACORN is hosting the first ever Addison County Farm-to-School Salon in February, modeled after Vermont FEED’s salon series. ACORN is also working with Addison County Farm-to-Preschool to publicize their salon on Farm-to-School programs for pre-K. See below for the calendar listings, and don’t forget to RSVP!

Addison County Farm-to-School Salon
Wednesday, Feb. 6, 5-8 p.m.
Alternative Education Building, MUHS
RSVP: Lea at lea@acornvt.org or 382-0401

Farm-to-School organizations are popping up around the state—how can we in Addison County work together so we’re not reinventing the wheel? How can we encourage more people to get involved in Farm-to-School here and reap the benefits for themselves and their communities? This salon will serve as an initial conversation between all interested parties on the status of regional farm-to-school programs and useful collaborations going forward. Come with questions, ideas and resources, and meet new people passionate about this topic. Salons are free, but please bring a potluck dish to share. Space is limited—RSVP early!

Farm-to-School for the Preschool Child

Thursday, Feb. 28, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Mary Johnson Children’s Center, Middlebury, Vt.
RSVP: Amethyst at resource@mjccvt.org or 388-4304

Farm-to-School is an exciting and growing movement in our state, but how does this translate to the early education setting? What are the challenges and opportunities for the pre-school child? Research has show that the very early years are the most formative for how/if children develop healthy eating habits. What can we do to foster this connection at home and in school? Come join us for a potluck meal, stimulating conversation, and meet new people passionate about this topic. Salons are free, but please bring a potluck dish to share. Space is limited—RSVP early!
